Some Google News users of Android are reporting that the app has consumed an excessive amount of background data leading to a lot of overcharges which the users didn’t know about the cause of it.

Last month, Google News Community Manager verified and addressed about the issue that the company are investigating the issue and working on a fix for it but as of yet, the issue still persists.

One of the users said that:

“Have a problem this morning where I woke up and Google News used 7.65GB of background data overnight. I was connected to wifi but the signal was weak so its possible it was connecting/disconnecting. Even still…have no idea how google news would have a way to use that much in such a short time unless there was a problem.”

As reported by several users, the app consumes a lot of mobile data despite the “Download via Wi-Fi” option enabled and in some cases, the Google News app has used as much as 24 GB background data which lead to charge as much as $385.

The only current solution about this issue is to disable background data or deleting the app but considering how the app consumes data even when it is restricted in the Settings, the best choice is to uninstall theĀ app to avoid any extra data consuming and charges,
