ooVoo™ Enables Conversation at the Independent Features Film Festival in New York by Live Face-to-Face Video From Around the Globe

Politically Oppressed Director Able To Participate Despite Being Denied A Passport

New York, July 23, 2008 - ooVoo, an innovator in face-to-face video communication, today announced a sponsorship that brings a truly international dimension to this year’s Independent Features Film Festival, July 25-27 2008. As the official sponsor of the festival’s 23 director Q&A sessions, ooVoo will allow directors and audiences to connect live, in real-time from anywhere in the world, using ooVoo’s high-quality video chat service.

Filmmakers who will not be able to attend the screenings at the Tribeca Cinemas in person will be able to have a live video chat with the audience, in the theater, directly after their movie has played. ooVoo’s participation in the Independent Features Film Festival will also allow Romulo Guardia, director of the acclaimed movie El Señor Presidente, dubbed as “the film that said no to Hugo Chavez” to participate and have a face-to-face conversation with the audience, despite being denied a passport to travel to New York by his home government. The movie, which is highly critical of Venezuela’s human rights record, is one of the 23 films being showcased at the prestigious festival.

“We are thrilled and would like to express on behalf of us all, victims of violations of human rights in Venezuela, our gratefulness for this opportunity to show our side of the story. It is for us of great importance to be able to show our film to the New York area audience, as this honor also carries the possibility to share with America's most liberal community our cry for freedom, for human rights, for justice, a lonesome cry that has been silenced by the power of Venezuelan government oil sponsored propaganda”, said director Romulo Guardia about being an official 2008 selection for the Independent Features Film Festival. “It would be an honor to attend, unfortunately our situation is very precarious, I do not even have a passport and it seems that the government will not issue me one for the time being.”

He will be seen and heard now thanks to ooVoo.

“Filmmakers from anywhere in the world will be able to interact with festival attendees live on the silver screen!” said Philip Nelson, president of Independent Features. “We believe ooVoo not only provides a unique opportunity to bring some of our filmmakers to the IFF “virtually”, who are not able to attend due to travel costs, constraints or schedule conflicts but also provides the independent film community with a great tool for collaboration, communication and connection for the independent film industry overall.”

ooVoo is changing the way we communicate through its high quality video chat solution that allows up to six people at once to connect face-to-face. Its easy-to-use features include the ability to send and receive video clips, exchange files and chat messages, as well as record conversations and make calls to North American landlines and mobile phones.

“We are delighted to be part of the Independent Features Film Festival and be able to facilitate creative discussion in a medium that film fans love, the moving image.” said Philippe Schwartz, CEO of ooVoo. “ooVoo has always been known for its high quality video and we look forward to bringing our expertise to the big screen during this fantastic event.”

About Independent Features (www.independentfeatures.com)

Independent Features was created by two independent filmmakers who learned firsthand how hard it is to find an independent film an audience. After completing their first independent feature in March of 2001, they ran into the same predicament most independent filmmakers find themselves in. They found it very hard to find their film an audience. After years of working outside of the film industry they talked about giving it another shot, they always loved independent film. Instead of producing another film they decided to go another direction, they created a platform that would give independent filmmakers a global audience.

Independent Features pioneered the first film festival in which film selection is done ONLINE via a web-based competition. The 2008 competition took place May 5th through June 30th with the top 23 films receiving an invitation to the Independent Features Film Festival. The festival will take place July 25-27 at the acclaimed Tribeca Cinemas in Lower Manhattan.
