Storm chasers use new mobile technology and social video app to connect with weather enthusiasts through real-time video communications

New York, NY (May 25, 2011) – As part of the “The Great Tornado Hunt” running now through June 3, 2011 on The Weather Channel (TWC), ooVoo (www.oovoo.com) , the video chat company, is assisting TWC on daily tornado chase reports with its innovative mobile communication capabilities.

The goal of the program led by meteorologist Mike Bettes and an expert team of storm chasers is to catch tornadoes and study them to learn more about these powerful forces of weather. The Weather Channel, Bettes and his team are using ooVoo’s cloud-based video technology, including smart phones pre-loaded with an ooVoo mobile video chat application, to provide viewers a real-time account of the chase experience on air and online at weather.com/tornadohunt.

The hunt takes Bettes and his team of storm chasers into the Midwest, the High Plains or other locations where conditions are suited for a tornado. Through it all, the team will communicate through ooVoo to ensure spontaneous moments get captured real-time.

Each day, starting at 11:15 a.m. EST, daily live streaming will take consumers behind the scenes for the team’s briefing meeting, as Bettes connects with the chasers.
